WE TEACH VOCAL TECHNIQUE

OUR MISSION
The McClosky Institute of Voice is the home of The McClosky Technique ™, a science-based method that promotes vocal efficiency in both song and speech, increasing the opportunity for improved range, resonance, and endurance. The McClosky Technique ™ uses muscle relaxation exercises, breath management, and our unique “hands-on” approach to help the client discover the coordination needed to make both singing and speaking easy and free, enabling healthy voices to grow and troubled voices to heal.
OUR TECHNIQUE
The goal of the McClosky Technique ™ is functional efficiency: coordinating the different parts of the vocal mechanism so that, whether in song or in speech, each part of the body is doing its proper job, with little or no effort wasted.
We teach a series of exercises to release counter-productive tensions, a stance that promotes efficient, easy breathing, and an easy onset of tone.
VOCAL DISORDERS
We do not diagnose or directly treat vocal disorders. Instead, we teach you how to use what you have, as efficiently and effectively as possible. In many cases, the voice can be improved. And when poor vocal technique is at the root of the problem, improvements can be significant.
If you think you may have a vocal disorder, go to a laryngologist first. Once the doctor has given you a diagnosis, treatment plan, and permission to work with a voice teacher, then you may benefit from private sessions with one of us, or from taking one of our classes. Doctors and speech language pathologists often refer clients to us for technical work.
